NRDC-GR Marks 20 Years of Committed Readiness

On Friday, 6 September 2024, we celebrated a significant milestone—the 20th anniversary of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Greece Headquarters! The event was a tribute to two decades of commitment and cooperation in upholding global peace and security.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios CHOUPIS, the Chiefs of the Hellenic Army, Navy, and Air Force General Staffs, as well as former NRDC-GR Commanders and Chiefs of Staff. Political and military authorities from Thessaloniki were also present, alongside consuls from allied nations, NATO delegations, and other distinguished guests. The event was an opportunity for past and present personnel to reflect on their shared accomplishments.

Today, the Headquarters, staffed by Greek and foreign military personnel from 11 allied countries, strengthens its role by actively participating in collective deterrence and defense in the Southeastern region of Europe, addressing new threats and adapting to redefined security priorities. This involvement reinforces Greece’s geostrategic position as a pillar of stability and security.

The Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios CHOUPIS, addressed the participants, underscoring the vital role that NRDC-GR has played in strengthening NATO’s collective defense posture.

NRDC-GR Commander Lieutenant General Athanasios GARINIS reflected on the collective achievements of the past 20 years, praised the contribution of the personnel throughout these years, and highlighted the importance of ongoing readiness and cooperation.

This anniversary is also meaningful for the city of Thessaloniki, where our headquarters has become an important part of the community, contributing to its economic and social life.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported our mission over the years. Here’s to many more years of working together, united and strong!
