Exercise “GORDIAN KNOT 2024”

From the 22nd to the 29th of November 2024, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Greece (NRDC-GR) conducted the execution phase of Exercise “GORDIAN KNOT 2024”, with the participation of 967 Staff Officers from 16 NATO member states deployed 30km from its premises, at Prokopidi Camp in Assiros village.

On 28th of November, the Distinguished Visitors’ Day (DV-Day) took place, showcasing the NRDC-GR’s War Fighting Corps (WFC) role in a joint, multinational, and multidomain environment for Article 5 Operations. The focus was on integrating forces and capabilities, synchronizing effects, and executing land tactical operations to defeat adversaries across physical, virtual, and cognitive domains. NRDC-GR is a continuously evolving Headquarters with advanced warfighting capabilities that strengthens NATO’s deterrence and defense posture while projecting its role as a credible security provider at the forefront of the Alliance.

Distinguished guests included the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios KOSTIDIS, the Commanding General of the Hellenic First Army/EU-OHQ “ACHILLEAS,” Lieutenant General Dimokritos KONSTANTAKOS and other senior NATO representatives, such as the Deputy Commander of the Allied Joint Force Command Naples, Lieutenant-General Peter Kenneth SCOTT, the Commander of the Joint Force Training Centre, Major General Bogdan RYCERSKI, the Chief of Staff of the Rapid Reaction Corps (RRC) France, Major General Stéphane MARCHENOIR, the Deputy Chief of Staff Operations of Multinational Corps Southeast, Brigadier General Ivan Draganov IVANOV, the Deputy Commander of the 1st Cavalry Division as representative of V Corps, Brigadier General Peter C. GLASS and Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations of the Multinational Corps Northeast, Brigadier General Andrew J. BATES.

The event also gathered other esteemed representatives, including commanders and delegations from various allied commands, representatives of affiliated units, defense attachés in Greece, high-ranking officers of the Greek Armed Forces and consuls of participating nations. Their presence highlighted the exercise’s significance and underscored the unity and shared commitment of allied and partner nations.

NRDC-GR Commander, Lieutenant General Athanasios GARINIS, welcomed the distinguished guests and highlighted the significance of the exercise for NATO’s operational readiness, while NRDC-GR COS Major General Vasileios TSAMIS briefed the audience about the scope and objectives of the exercise.
