On Friday, 9 October 2026, a military promotion ceremony was held at the Thessaloniki Military Officers’ Club to mark the promotion of U.S. Army Captain Alfonso RIVERA to the rank of Major.
The ceremony was presided over by the Commander of NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Greece (NRDC-GR), Lieutenant General Grigorios BOUNTLIAKIS, who congratulated Major RIVERA on his promotion and acknowledged his dedication, professionalism, and valuable contribution to the operational readiness of the multinational Headquarters.
Among the distinguished guests was the Consul General of the United States of America in Thessaloniki, Mr. Matt HAGENGRUBER, who addressed the attendees and highlighted Major RIVERA’s military service.
A particularly meaningful moment of the ceremony was the pinning of the new rank insignia by Major RIVERA’s father, who had travelled from the United States with his family to attend the occasion. His childhood friend and fellow military officer then placed the garrison cap on his head, followed by an exchange of military salutes.
The Commander subsequently presented Major RIVERA with his official promotion order. In his remarks, Major RIVERA expressed his sincere appreciation to his family, colleagues, and distinguished guests for their presence and support on this important occasion.
NRDC-GR extends its sincere congratulations to Major Alfonso RIVERA on his promotion and wishes him continued success in his duties and future military career.
