On Tuesday the 13th and Wednesday the 14th of February 2024, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Greece (NRDC-GR), conducted the CIMIC- LEGAD seminar that was focused on International Humanitarian Law and CIMIC challenges in the context of Russia – Ukraine War”.
The aim of the seminar was to enlighten NRDC-GR staff and the distinguished participants about important issues concerning the implementation of the IHL and the role of CIMIC, mainly focusing on the challenges which have emerged in the RUS-UKR war. It was the venue for the HQ to enrich the awareness of its staff on critical issues that can arise during armed conflicts. Some of the topics that were presented and analyzed during the 2-days event were: The role of International Criminal Justice in Ukrainian War, the role of Civil-Military Cooperation in the Protection of Civilians amid RUS-UKR war, CIMIC in war fighting and IHL challenges, among others.
The seminar comprised a combination of dedicated lectures, carried out by a representative of the Multinational CIMIC Group (MNCG), the Head of International Committee of Red Cross Athens Delegation, the Chief Operation of Blue Shield International, a Field Office Coordinator of International Organization of Migration (IOM) Thessaloniki Office, an Advisor on Peace and Security of IOM Headquarters (in an online session from GENEVA), distinguished professors of the Academia (the Democritus University of Thrace, the University of Macedonia, the International Hellenic University and the Aristotle University), and staff of the NRDC-GR (G9 Branch and LEGAD office).
The participation to the seminar included personnel from the Allied Joint Force Command (JFC) Brunssum, the Multinational CIMIC Group (ITA), EUROCORPS, the 71st Airmobile Brigade, the 26th Tank Brigade and the Greek CIMIC Coy, as well as students from Hellenic University.
