Brigadier General (GRC A) Grigorios FOLAS

Deputy Chief of Staff - Communications Division

BG FOLAS graduated the Hellenic Military Academy in 1994 and served as an Infantry Officer until 1997, when he joined the newly formed Army Aviation Branch.

During most of his career BG FOLAS served as an Army Aviator by accumulating more than 2500 flight hours as Attack Helicopter Pilot and Flight Instructor and has fulfilled a wide range of leadership positions at the tactical, component and operational level. These positions include field, command and staff positions for intelligence, operations, support, planning both in national and multinational structures. He has commanded successfully all the levels of military command, from Platoon up to Brigade level Command posts and received the highest military education and training.

In particular he served with the 1st and the 2nd Attack Helicopter Battalion, mainly as an Instructor Attack Helicopter Pilot as well as in various Staff positions. He was honored three times by being assigned to Command positions: 1st Attack Helicopter Battalion Cdr (2016-2018), as Hellenic Army Aviation School Cdr (2021-2023) and Hellenic Army Aviation Training Center Cdr (Brigade level, 2024-2025).

His additional national and multinational staff and operational experience include his deployment in Albania (1997) as an Infantry 2nd Lt with FMP, his deployment in Kosovo (2002-2003) as J3/AIR/HELI OPS/KFOR/HQ Officer, his appointment as ACOS G2/1st Army Aviation Brigade (2015), and his appointment as ACOS G3 AIR/NRDC-GR (2018-2021).

BG FOLAS attended 3 flight courses at Ft Rucker Novosel, USA and graduated the Hellenic Joint Armed Forces War College, as well as the Hellenic National Defense College. He is decorated with numerous national and multinational awards.

BG FOLAS is a fluent English speaker. 

He is a proud father of three boys. He is also a musician, martial artist and during his free time, he builds static scale plastic models.
