BGen Diaz was graduated from the Spanish Army Academy as a Lieutenant in July 1985. His first assignment was the 93rd Field
Artillery Regiment. From 1987-1994 he served in different positions in the I/74 HAWK Bn.
In 1993 he participated, for two years, as a military observer in the UN mission in Mozambique. In 1997 he graduated from the Army Staff School and was assigned to the Canary Islands Command HQ.
From 2000-2003 he was assigned to the Plans Division of the Spanish Joint Staff. In 2003 he was assigned to the NATO Striking Fleet/2nd fleet in Norfolk where he served as head of the land operations branch. In 2004 he was transferred to the NATO Allied Command for Transformation where he served in the Resources Division.
From 2006-2007 he served at the Force Planning branch of the Plans & Policy Division in the Joint Staff. From 2007-2010 he was designated as the Spanish Liaison Officer to the US Joint Forces Command. During this tour he had an active role in Multinational Experiments (MNE) 5 and 6 as well as in numerous joint exercises.
From 2010-2012 he was assigned as deputy chief at the Spanish Transformation Unit.
From 2012-2014 he commanded the 73rd Air Defense Regiment. In 2015, after attending the course for the promotion to General Officer, he was assigned as advisor for transformation to the CHOD.
From 2015 to 2017 he served as Chief of the Joint Center for Doctrine & Concept Development
In March 2017 he was designated Chief of the CHOD’s cabinet.
During his career Bgen Diaz has received several military and civilian national decorations and medals. He has also been awarded with the UN medal for ONUMOZ operation and two US service medals: Navy &Marine Commendation Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal.
BG Diaz is fluent in English. He is married and father of three children. His hobbies are sailing and reading.
